It’s a wild world: London Fashion Week FW11

Ghostly-skinny models walking on endless runways; self-absorbed bloggers and it-girls running around town, admiring themselves and fighting to appear even duller than they are; serious editors scribbling on their precious notebooks; famous faces parading in über-cool outfits: London Fashion Week has been a kaleidoscopic microcosm of madness, area code WC2. But apart from the long queues, the street-style photographers, the pile of press releases, the various runway dramas, the absence of organisation and the hectic succession between a show and another, it was a delight of experimental fashion. Calmer than Paris or New-York Fashion Week, it was a very enjoyable experience, where young and creative designers found the recognition they deserve – and where already recognizable and recognized names came up with interesting new trends.

I decided to mix pictures from style.com and my own photos from the shows to trace a summary of LFW in five trends: Tribal Silkscreen, Galactic Valkyrie, Black Leather & Pentagrams, Royalty & Britishness, Colour-blocks.

Belle Sauvage

Maria-Francesca Pepe

Vivienne Westwood

Corrie Nielsen

And for those of you wondering about everything off-runway, here are a bunch of ‘atmospheric’ photos. Enjoy!

If you want more about LFW, you can check my written reviews on 160grams (I and II); and in case you missed Couture, there are a few as well (on Givenchy, Iris Van Herpen and Dior) and other posts on naplestreetstyle (here, here and here; or check the streetstyle only, if you’re not speaking Italian!)…

I also have a new portfolio platform on behance. So feel free to follow me if you are there as well! And for those who are not able to attend to shows, here is the consolation: it was my back-up plan… dressing like on-Italian-slopes-in-the-Seventies. These are all my scans from an old magazine.

So sip your vermouth, carry your check-blanket, wear your ski shoes and sunglasses and get ready for fashion week.

thank you sooo much, otto dix is so great (and i’m really a fan of beatrix potter, although or because she has a different style)!

you really figured out the different styles that were presented on the runway, the corrie nielsen dress is fabulous!

  5. I know what you mean Fashion Week(s) is always a hectic time of year, aside from the Holidays! ;)

    How have you been?

  6. For me it was the first LFW where I did several shows and I must say it’s definitely one for upcoming designers. I preferred the lesser known names a lot more than the established ones (which almost bored me) and in advance, I was lead to believe that everything was more or less around Somerset House, but I ended up scrambling from WC to EC which was a bit of a pain. I still enjoyed it a lot though, but Paris will always be my favorite. I’m still a believer that Fashion Week should be a bit glamorous and both Paris and Milan deliver in that respect (by the way, how annoying were the streetstyle paps?). Hopefully I’ll get to see you at the next one! Great collages and recap.

  7. Hope you’re having a great time there, dear!

Isy is back, quel plaisir. Tu décryptes les tendances comme nul autre pareil.
Ps : Black Leather & Pentagrams est certainement ma tendance favorite.
